Eighty percent of the historical monuments in Badghis require restoration and renovation. Some cultural activists in Badghis, expressing their concerns over the destruction of historical sites and unauthorized excavations of ancient artifacts in this province, say that Badghis has been neglected by the government for a long time. According to these cultural activists, preserving and maintaining historical artifacts reflects the country’s historical identity and can also be a good source of income. Meanwhile, the head of Badghis’ Information and Culture Department says he has shared his proposal for the restoration of monuments and historical sites with the Ministry of Information and Culture. According to statistics from the Badghis Information and Culture Department, more than 50 historical monuments and ancient artifacts are registered with this department, and over 30 people have been arrested this year in connection with unauthorized and illegal excavations of ancient artifacts.
