Local sources report a physical altercation between gold mine workers and Taliban members in the Ragistan district of Badakhshan.
According to local residents in Badakhshan, forces under the command of Hayatullah Mohsin, the Taliban district governor of Raghistan, clashed with local residents in the village of “Lashkargah” within the district.
Sources state that this clash occurred on Tuesday, May 14, in Raghistan over the collection of the gold tithe (khums), leading to a shooting in which at least seven local mine workers were injured.
During this confrontation, the Taliban’s police chief and the head of criminal investigations in Raghistan district were beaten by local residents, while the Taliban district governor fled with his forces.
The Draim and Argo districts in Badakhshan have also witnessed widespread protests against the Taliban in the past two weeks. These protests arose after Taliban forces, during the destruction of opium poppy fields, clashed with local residents. The ensuing gunfire resulted in several civilian casualties.
